Estimate the Sum Calculator
Estimate the Sum Calculator
Estimate the sum calculator is a handy online tool which helps you to calculate the estimated summation of two numbers. This tool is handy when you want a rough and approximate answer rather than an exact answer.
Many times, while paying the bill, we want to know our bill amount beforehand, so that we can calculate whether we have adequate funds for the stuff or not. In such kinds of situations, an estimate sum calculator is the need of the hour which can solve your problem in an instant.
What is an estimated sum?
In mathematics, there are two types of sums – Actual Sum and Estimated Sum.
The actual sum is the sum of two numbers without rounding off the digits. For example, the actual sum of 12 and 15 is 12 + 15 => 27.
In the estimated sum, the numbers are rounded off to their nearest tens or hundreds place. Then, the rounded numbers are added together to find the estimated sum. For example, the estimated sum of 12 and 15 will be:
First, we will round the numbers to their nearest place and then add the two numbers.
Estimated Sum = 10 (after rounding off) + 20 (after rounding off) => 10 + 20 => 30
Therefore, the estimated sum is 30.
How to Calculate the Estimated Sum?
To calculate the estimated sum of two numbers, follow these steps:
1. First Round off the numbers to their nearest tens or hundreds places.
2. Then, add the rounded numbers to get the estimated sum.
Note: In the case of two-digit numbers, the numbers will be rounded to their nearest tens places only.
Example 1: Calculate the estimated sum of 31 and 46.
Let a = 31 and b = 46.
After rounding the numbers to their nearest tens place, we get:
a = 30 and b = 50.
Now, Estimated Sum = a + b = > 30 + 50 => 80
Therefore, the estimated sum is 80.
